Financial Impact of Supplements

Financial Impact of Supplements

Nutrition
I can't argue against the fact that some supplements out there are pretty good for you. Humans are naturally more deficient in vitamin D and B vitamins so if you do take vitamins and these are the ones you take, awesome job! If not, then you are just throwing money down the toilet, literally. As I discussed in my earlier article here, we are naturally NOT protein deficient. I urge you to quit protein shakes and eat more broccoli. If not for health's sake, then do it for your wallet. The Sports Nutrition Market: The number one for supplement sales in 2016 was the protein market. Protein makes up around 70% of the sports nutrition and supplement market worth around $6 Billion. That means that people are spending approximately $4.2…

Best Athletic Headband

Why would you be on the lookout for the best athletic headband? Well let me tell you. I've recently been trying to grow my hair out a bit. This always fails because I get sick of it and cut it all off. The primary reason for my hair being annoying is that it gets in my face at the gym. If you are a guy with mid-length hair, this article is most certainly for you. If you have ever tried to grow your hair out to any length that you can actually style you have probably experienced the awkward mid-length stage. This is the stage where you cannot quite pull your hair back and tie it up, yet you can't really style your hair or maybe you don't want to…

I’m Mad At Oprah

I’m Mad At Oprah

Nutrition
I know I know... how can anyone be mad at Oprah she's so charitable and so nice to so many people and a total role model and on and on... Well, recently Oprah has a new ad out partnering with Weight Watchers. She is bankrolling for spitting some false ideas at television watchers everywhere. I'll explain just why I think so after you watch this: Sure, the theme is great. "Live Well, Lose Weight". Oprah goes on in this commercial to talk about how she doesn't have to choose what she eats. Let me tell you folks, her endorsing Weight Watchers is all about the money. How Weight Watchers Really Works: Basically, the premise behind Weight Watchers is that they assign point values to particular foods. Junk foods have higher…

Managing Stress With Fitness

Managing Stress With Fitness

Fitness
I am probably the most stressed out person I know. I don’t know if there is a valid reason for all my stress and anxiety, but it’s there and it’s real and I deal with it quite effectively. Perhaps the number one way I deal with it is through a consistent exercise plan. Even today for example, I was getting extremely antsy writing an article. I got to a pretty good spot for a break and decided I was going to hit the gym. Today is technically a rest day, but I needed to relieve some stress. I looked at my workout plan, decided what would be the freshest muscle group for the day, and decided to go ahead and work that. Some of you may wonder the negative side…

Creating A Unique Running Route: Stoplight Method

Creating A Unique Running Route: Stoplight Method

Fitness
So running generally gets a bad rap… At least I hate it so I assume a lot of other people hate it. Personally I have been a swimmer rather than a runner for quite some time, but I don’t always have access to a swimming pool. I have a lot of feelings about swimming vs. running that mostly stem from the low impact characteristics of swimming. Since I have relatively bad knees from the get go, I often get pretty sore after a run, whereas swimming doesn’t kill my feet and knees after a couple miles. I guess you can argue that swimming destroys your rotator cuffs, which is true, but there are ways around that and strokes that can lighten up the load on your shoulders. Although I prefer…

Work Lunch Recipes

Work Lunch Recipes

Nutrition
I know one of the biggest struggles I have is eating a decent lunch at work. Maybe you have the same issue. Sometimes it's lack of access to a decent work lunch recipe and sometimes it's just because I'm lazy. I've recently solved both of these issues. I have the easy solution to creating the most delicious, quick, convenient, and CHEAP midday meals. First, if you don't already make your own lunch at work or at the very least bring your own then you should reevaluate your lunch choices. Reasons To Make Your Own Lunch I understand a large part of business is lunch with clients or customers, and I'm by no means saying not to attend these lunches. However, on the days you are not sharing a business lunch…

Best Water Bottle For The Gym

Gear
I’m sure you’ve wondered… What is the best water bottle for the gym? You’re not the only one! I wondered this for a long time and eventually found my soul mate, my holy grail, my go-to water bottle. Now even though I found mine, you may have different preferences. After going through a lot of water bottles I realized there were a few I kept coming back to. Those three were the Blender Bottle, the Contigo, and the Hydro Flask. The Hydro Flask quickly became my favorite and I never looked back. But I’m here to give you my thoughts on all three. The Blender Bottle: I don't really want to take anything away from The Blender Bottle, it's a great all purpose bottle. However,  I would say of the…

Exercise and The Office

Exercise and The Office

Fitness, Nutrition
When you say exercise and office in the same sentence, people usually look at you funny. I'm not writing this to tell you to do dips on your desk, or pushups in the walkway. I personally think that this just ticks everyone else off when they have to walk around you to get to the coffee pot. What I aim to do here is provide you with some options to add a little bit of movement to your day. While some of these ideas may seem like common sense, sometimes it helps when someone else brings them to your attention. Struggles of the Office I never really have been in an office setting for more and a couple days at a time, but recently I've taken on a role that…

Fitness On The Go

Fitness
Recently I've been having to travel a lot for my job, and I always struggle with finding a way to incorporate my workouts when I'm on business. I want to outline what you can do to combat the common issues you run into when traveling for work/leisure and trying to get a workout in or eat properly. People from all different walks of life leave home and explore the world for many different reasons; sometimes it is for leisure, sometimes for work. No matter what the reason for travel is, however, we always find difficulty maintaining our healthy lifestyles when we are not at home. What About Time? Probably the number 1 opponent to your fitness success while away from home would be finding the time to workout and eat properly. More…

Is The Best Protein Shake No Protein Shake?

Is The Best Protein Shake No Protein Shake?

Nutrition
With all of the different options on the market these days, how do you decide what the best protein shake really is. You see a ton of companies like Optimum Nutrition and MusclePharm pushing their products in your face everywhere you go...I can't even walk into my local gyms anymore without seeing a 20ft long rack of protein powders lining the walls. Here's the problem with this... you are likely NOT protein deficient. When you are not protein deficient all you are doing is causing your kidneys to work harder to digest something that you really didn't need in the first place. Remember that article where I talked about how I was on the brink of kidney failure? Well I'm attributing part of that to the two or three protein…
